Chocolate Masterpiece Brings Christmas Joy To Yorkshire Youngsters Father Christmas watches on as ‘Snowy’ wins Gold in this festive Olympic scene....
This is the scene that the youngsters at Martin House Hospice in Boston Spa, near Wetherby, will enjoy this Christmas, thanks to the handy work of Ashley McCarthy, chef and owner of Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton , near Tadcaster. The intricately designed Olympic model hides a treasure trove of sweets which the youngsters will discover when they break open the chocolate display in a flurry of excitement. Father of three Ashley has been making these chocolate masterpieces for several years. Each year’s display follows a different theme but there’s always sweet treats hidden inside the main structure. More than 30 hours of melting, sticking and shaping went into this year’s creation. The month-watering model contains 15kg of chocolate and 5kg of icing sugar plus 2kg of wrapped sweets inside the base. The work of chocolate art is currently on display at the pub for customers to enjoy, and they are invited to make a donation to Martin House in appreciation. It will be delivered to the youngsters on Christmas Eve. Ashley raises money for Martin House throughout the year with various events including a farmers’ market and a Christmas draw, as well as through collecting tins on the bar. Over the years, he has raised more than £3,500. Alison Wragg, community fund raiser (North and East Yorkshire) for Martin House, said: “It’s hard to put into words the joy that Ashley’s chocolate delights bring to our children and young people. This year’s Olympic scene will be no exception; it’s truly exquisite! “We always look forward to Ashley’s Christmas Eve visit – it’s become a tradition at Martin House and is a sign that Christmas is well and truly here.” Ashley and his wife Kelly who have been at the pub for over 7 years are well known in the Yorkshire community as they’re often in the news for winning top national, regional and local awards for the excellent food and service at their pub. The Sun Inn has recently under gone a £350k refurbishment offering an extra dining, drinkers bar and state of the art kitchen…
